How it all Began |
Let’s go back to the very beginning… Amarillo High School, home of The Golden Sandstorms and a young Phil Price. Trying to earn his way to a convention, Phil won first place in the local ad layout and copywriting competition and placed third in the state contest. At this moment, Phil knew what he wanted to do with his life. Phil opened his advertising agency, Phil Price Advertising, in the back office of a beauty school in downtown Lubbock. He started as a one-man shop, handling the sales, copywriting and design for his clients. Malouf’s signed on as Phil’s first big client, and progress followed. The expansion of restaurants like Harrigan’s and Don Pablo’s and the success of many political campaigns sparked a growth in the agency. Phil attributes a large portion of this growth to his “secret weapon,” the marketing plan. As a precursor to The Price Group’s BrandStorming™ of today, the marketing plan called for creative ads that really worked for clients. And it did. The Price Group stands today as a symbol of Phil’s success, but even now, he won’t take the credit. To him, the success stems from always having good people and good clients. He said, quite sincerely, that it’s really about the people he’s met and the friends he’s made along the way. Phil has earned many awards and been recognized many times, including last year's honor of Distinguished Alumnus of Texas Tech University and being inducted into the College of Mass Communications Hall of Fame. But the honor he looks most fondly on is his induction into the Sandieland Hall of Fame at Amarillo High School, where it all began. |
